35: The Trailer

Dear Friend,

A good September 1st to you! Among other things, it’s National Pet Rock Day. Pet Rocks, in the 1970’s, were a thing. I made my own at that time, a little blue-gray river-rock with glued-on googly-eyes. He had a best friend, a twig named Arnold, whom my cat ate.

How is your long-weekend going? What are you up to today? Thank you for taking this time to read Tracks by the Post!

We’re in Northern California doggy-sitting with Miss B. It’s a beautiful starry-sky morning and we’ve been up for a few hours already.

This morning, around 1:15 am, the room was very dark. I sat up in bed and then ducked down quickly as rapid wing-beats zipped past my face, over and over; a poor little bat was circling, mapping the room.

If you’ve never had a bat in the house, just know it’s not that big of a deal as long as you can take the screen off of a couple windows (and / or open some doors) and wait quietly (out of the way). Quiet is key (turn off fans, radios, tv, etc). Bats are clever and will find an opening if given quiet, space, and time. This one flew out about ten minutes after I took off the screen… after which, Frank and I were wide-awake.

We have lots to talk about so we talked while Miss B tried to go back to sleep. By 3:30 am, we figured we might as well start the day so Frank got to work on some photos … Wow, Frank Bevans, what a beautiful early-morning sky!

Yesterday was the last day of August. It was a huge day for us. We bought a trailer! It’s a four-season Nash!

We are very grateful for the years of thoughtful care, time, and energy that the seller had put into what is now our home on the road. It was difficult for her to part with it, but she patiently showed us all of the specialities that the trailer comes with and explained all of the maintenance and upgrades that she’d done, and she included lots of wonderful and necessary accessories. And, because she is obviously a brilliant lady, she gave us a binder-full of every single transaction and manual pertaining to the trailer.

I have to say, it’s lovely to know that our new Home Sweet Home has always been full of good vibes!

This coming week is a big deal for Frank and our truck. Frank will be strengthening the suspension by installing shocks, struts, leaf-springs… all from Ironman 4x4 America. As soon as all of the parts arrive, Frank will be doing the work, I’ll be making sandwiches and playing tennis ball catch with Miss B, and the truck will be just sitting there, much like a pet rock.

We should have more to share on Frank’s Truck Tackle next week.

In the meantime, Please Write and tell us your pet rock story! And if you know of someone that would like to be included in the weekly Tracks email (a blog reminder), just share this link!

In last week’s blog/letter, #34: Decisions, I mentioned our vacillations concerning a trailer. Thank you so much for all of your good thoughts – as we did, finally, make what we believe to be, the best choice for our ‘now.’

Wishing you a lovely week ahead!

Gently Be,

Leslie and Frank
