Dear Friend,

How was your first week of October? Have you been digging out your cozy clothes? Sporting your favorite pair of fuzzy orange socks? Knitting sweaters for your newly adopted kitty-cat?

Autumn is our favorite time of year in Northern California, a tangible change of season, although this year, it feels like summer is hanging on, it has been warm!

We’ve parked our trailer in a grove of very tall fir trees with loads of shade and clean air, a few miles away from some of Frank’s favorite places to photograph fall colors.

(Just a side-note: a spider bit my elbow last night so now I have the urge to scale things, and these tall trees are suddenly more intriguing than ever) ha!

Ok, so, “The Holidays” are approaching. What are your plans for this holiday season? Do you have traditions? Have they changed over the years?

I know that marriages, relocating, evolving-family-relationships all impact time and availability of participating loved ones. I hope that as your plans unfold, you are delighted!

It’s amazing how one little change can shift an entire set of expectations; change is not always a bummer, sometimes it’s for the better!

On a map, one little tiny bump can completely realign a trajectory. I imagine that every explorer, famous or not, has had their fair-share of pivots and detours. Our lives (and maybe yours, too) are no different.

You can plan all you want, you can make decisions and train to successfully corral cats and juggle fire balls, you can set yourself up to have everything you’ve ever dreamed of, but time, life, nature, all bring change.

Every day is a gift. We’re not surprised to find ourselves in this beautiful place surrounded by trees, and we don’t take this time and space for granted, not even one starry sky or bird song.

(The spider bite woke me up last night. I shook out the bedding while poor Frank stood by in a daze. I must have inadvertently interrupted the comings and goings of some little 8-legged friend. But since it took about three hours for my elbow to stop throbbing, and I wasn’t able to locate said friend, I certainly hope that ‘they’ have somewhere else to be tonight)!

Well, thank you for checking in to read Tracks by the Post. We are (still) intending to bring you photos next week… it seems that these are busy days for everyone, it’s always great to hear from you so please do write to us when you have time.

Gently Be,

Leslie and Frank
